About the Department

Psychology is a branch of science that deals with the study of the mind, human behavior, cognition, feelings, and emotions. The course curriculum of Psychology includes the study of human behavior stimulated by functions like cerebral processes, goals, attitudes, emotions, dispute resolution, pressure management, motivation, and characteristics of the mind.

According to the academic plan, educational programs in all disciplines have been formed under the Credit Transfer System. Lectures for domestic and foreign students are provided exclusively with the use of multimedia technologies. In addition, the Faculty issued methodical recommendations for practical classes in all disciplines for domestic and foreign medical students, teaching aids for practical classes on content modules (Biological Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Social Psychology), and practical manuals for independent work.

The scientific direction of the Faculty is to develop and implement modern aspects of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders, such as anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other psychoses, dementia, developmental disorders including autism, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and schizophrenia. 

The department organizes and holds scientific and practical conferences and operates a student scientific society. Faculty graduates work as psychologists and lecturers both at educational establishments (schools, colleges, gymnasiums, higher educational establishments) and psychological services under organizations and enterprises (advertising agencies, banks, staff management services, clinics, and medical centers for youth).

Educational Activity of the Faculty 

The students of the faculty and practitioners work in education study of the social, emotional, and cognitive processes involved in learning and apply their findings to improve the learning process. Some specialize in the educational development of a specific group of people such as children, adolescents, or adults, while others focus on specific learning challenges such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or dyslexia. 

The scope of psychological knowledge is diverse, which is why there is always a great variety of fields to develop and participate in. These are advertising, business, politics, marketing, management, mass media, art, sports, law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, specialized clinics, teaching work, etc. The main activities of a psychologist in practice – are psychological assessment, psychological counseling, psychological education, correctional and developmental work, and psychotherapy.

All applicants for undergraduate degree courses must possess a minimum qualification of five (5) credits, in the Senior Secondary School Certificate (WAEC, NECO, SAT, KCSE, ZIMSEC, GCE).

Accommodation: 1000 US$ every year (twin sharing a newly renovated hostel with new furniture
