About the Program

International Law Undergraduate Program (LLB) was established in 2020 within the Faculty of Law and will accept its first students in the 2020-2021 Academic Year.

Law is a compelling and challenging practice. Its area of impact is immense. It may reach people’s daily life as well as the operations of governments on an international level. That is why our program was established to train qualified lawyers to meet the increasing demand for such legal services in our country.

Our International Law Undergraduate Program (LLB) presents you with an appealing and effective academic experience, while the core modules that are required by professional legal bodies will be brought to your attention. Within the legal profession, it is expected of you to acquire certain practical and intellectual skills and this course specifically grants these requirements with a disciplined program of skills development.

The course also offers a great number of module choices. Besides the core modules, you may be able to choose from distinctive modules to fit your area of interest. Core modules are English Legal Method, Constitutional Law, Legal Research and Writing, Administrative Law, Criminal Law and Procedure, Law of Obligations, EU Law, Legal Accounting, Family Law, Commercial Law, Equity and Trust, Evidence and Civil Procedure, Property Law, Philosophy of Law, Commercial Law, Land Law, Labour Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Consumer Law, Intellectual Property Law, Private International Law, Law of the Sea and International Criminal Law. Our elective modules vary from Sociology of Law, Criminology, Medical Law, and Banking Law to Environmental Law, Arbitration Law, International Law, and Children’s Rights and Immigration Law with many other options to choose from.

The Faculty’s teaching methods are combinations of lectures, seminar-based discussions, and class presentations along with lectures given by guest speakers from areas of special expertise. LLB’s assessment methods comprise open- and closed-book exams, in-class quizzes, projects, and oral presentations. Alongside a theoretical education, our Faculty of Law encourages its students to develop their skills through practical lessons. For these purposes, it offers you a chance to take part in law clinics and hypothetical case studies as well.

Throughout the LLB course, you will be guaranteed to gain and develop a complete understanding and knowledge of the key principles and doctrines that construct the English Legal System and beyond.

Program Aims and Outcomes

Our International Law program aims to train students who will have the ability to use today’s technology effectively in connection with the mission of our University, can think freely and originally within the framework of ethical values, can be able to keep up with the rapid change of globalization, fully equipped with professional knowledge and skills as team leaders and players with high social and emotional intelligence.

In this regard, it is also the purpose of the course to train students who are aware of their rights, who claim their rights, who can offer legal solutions to the changes and developments in society, to consider law as a social phenomenon, and have analytical thinking skills.

Students who graduate from the International Law Undergraduate Program (LLB) are expected to gain competence in the following subjects:

  • to have sufficient, reliable, and up-to-date information in the field of common law;
  • to specialize in common law;
  • to have skills of reasoning, interpretation, and analytical thinking specific to the field of common law;
  • to establish a common mind compatible with the principles of common law by identifying legal problems correctly;
  • to be able to produce equitable, human-oriented, and fair solutions based on the principles of common law;
  • to have the ability to work multidisciplinary;
  • to take part in research, projects, and activities with an awareness of social responsibility;
  • to use information sources effectively;
  • to have the skill of verbal and written communication in English;
  • to observe their duties, rights, and responsibilities in legal practices and;
  • to act under the legislation and professional ethical rules in cooperation with relevant disciplines.

Career Opportunities

Upon successful graduation from our Faculty, the graduates are expected to complete their legal internships depending on the regulations of their country of choice.

Afterward, our graduates who have completed their legal internship can perform as judges, prosecutors, lawyers, notaries, and paralegals. Further, they can work as experts, legal advisers, and directors in public institutions, governmental or international organizations, and law firms.

Our graduate students can also consider continuing with their graduate and/or postgraduate education and pursuing an academic career within the field of academia.

Requirement

Students possessing TRNC citizenship and International students (English language proficiency may be required for students).

A copy of your High School Diploma (O LEVEL & A LEVEL) e.g (WAEC, NECO, SAT, KCSE, ZIMSEC, GCE)

A copy of your International passport Bio-data page.

A copy of your recent Passport Photo.

A valid copy of your Result Checker Card.

All applicants for undergraduate degree courses must possess a minimum qualification of five (5) credits, in the Senior Secondary School Certificate (WAEC, NECO, SAT, KCSE, ZIMSEC, GCE).

* Fees include scholarship, registration, social activity, and all taxes.

* The Student Permit fee of approx. USD $100, which also includes Annual Health Insurance, is payable directly to the TRNC Ministry of Health.
