Aim of the Program and Learning Outcomes

The joint VATEL-FIU International Hotel Management is designed to educate leaders and managers who are capable of adapting to change in the rapidly developing business World of tourism and hospitality, who are capable of critical thinking and problem-solving, and who are familiar with current and traditional management approaches. It provides graduates with advanced knowledge, skills, and competencies in the field of hotel management, and with the analytical training, they need in an increasingly competitive environment.
The program includes courses in management and organization, human resources, accounting, economics, finance, production, and marketing, and thus offers opportunities for students wishing to pursue a career in both general business and tourism and hotel management.
A key goal of our program is to train graduates who are sensitive to intercultural differences, have a command of European languages, and have effective communication skills to enable them to do business with international hotel chains and representatives.
By the end of the program, it is expected that students will have an advanced command of the academic, professional, and practical dimensions of International Hotel Management, and, within this context, will have:
1. Demonstrated the ability to communicate complex,  critical, and original ideas and interrelationships in academic and professional environments.
2. Showed the ability to employ analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in applied research settings and propose creative and innovative solutions to professional practice.
3. Showed a detailed grasp of both core and supporting concepts and terminology, and demonstrated a theoretical and practical knowledge of interdisciplinary relationships as relevant to the specific academic and professional area.
4. Demonstrated the ability to systematically and analytically plan, execute and evaluate work in academic and professional contexts through individual and collaborative approaches to study and work.
5. Applied the skills, knowledge, responsibilities, and commitment to the quality required for advanced academic and professional practice, and demonstrated a critical understanding of theoretical frameworks.

International Hotel Management graduates can find employment in almost every area of national and international tourism businesses operating in both the public and private sectors. Graduates can work in such fields as sales and marketing, accounting and finance, logistics, human resources, corporate communication, business development, purchasing and production departments, and many others.

Structure

The duration of study is 2 academic years.

Students are required to do 16 weeks of internship during the summer term. The main purpose of this internship program is to provide students with hands-on experience in the sector, which will develop their practical skills and facilitate future job applications.

Work experience training is conducted in the final semester of the program and further prepares students for professional life.
