About the Department
This master's degree offers critical access to the texts of key thinkers of our Western philosophical tradition, of Christianity, and of our culture in general, from a perspective that is not only retrospective but also prospective, so that it can guide the student in their contribution work. of different elements of judgment with good foundations in the debate about the problems of a sociocultural nature that arise in contemporary society.
This is advanced training in the history of thought, including its various aspects (philosophical, religious, historical, cultural, social...), from the appearance of rational thought in ancient Greece to the present day, over more than a millennium. and half of the Christian religion and culture in Europe.
Objectives
The specific competencies that graduates of the Master's Degree in Philosophy and Christianity must acquire are twelve and are defined below:
- Know the characteristics of Christian thought in its historical and cultural context.
- Understand the intellectual contributions of Christianity and its cultural and artistic manifestations.
- Contrast the development of Christian thought with the different cultural contributions of humanity.
- Comment on textual sources of Christian Philosophy and its historical influences.
- Argue about the main problems that emerge from Christian thought in its different expressions.
- Expose the main currents of Christian philosophical thought, emphasizing the theoretical comparison between them.
- Analyze the notion of dignity and its development in the history of ideas within its socio-cultural framework.
- Understand the dynamic nature of human life from the perspective of Christian philosophical thought.
- Expose the main epistemological doctrines of the Christian philosophical tradition, insisting on their theoretical contrast.
- Know and contrast the elements of ethics built from the assumptions of the Christian tradition.
- Structure the philosophical principles that characterize man as a social being, as they are exposed in thought, delving into the contrast between the different positions that have historically appeared within it.
Career Opportunities
The graduate will have obtained advanced training in Philosophy and its implications in the field of culture, with a specialized character in the perspective of philosophical thought developed in the field of Christianity, and oriented toward research.
