The Health Informatics Technology program will combine core software engineering knowledge and health care information systems. In this advanced technology diploma program's courses, you'll learn to design, develop and maintain the next generation of electronic health record applications and other exciting software products.

Under the umbrella of the School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science, this program will cover:
  •  Object-oriented software design methodologies
  •  User-oriented interface design
  •  The structure of health care information systems
  •  Telehealth
  •  Clinical workflow and IT solutions
  •  Data security
  •  Privacy issues within health care systems
  •  Tools, Algorithms and Methods for Health Care Information Systems
The coursework in this program will include: C#, Java, Python, SAS, Oracle, MS-SQL Server, Unix/ Linux, .NET Core, HTML5/CSS/JavaScript/Angular, mobile application development, data warehousing and predictive analytics, and BI tools in health care systems.
To underscore the curriculum's applied focus, the Health Informatics Technology program will include two software development projects. These real-world business applications will require you to utilize all the technical, systems and business skills gained during your studies.
The knowledge you'll acquire in this health technology program will enable you to design, develop, modify and test software for health care applications. You'll also be able to analyze and model data, develop health care databases and support decision making based on predictive analytics. Lastly, you'll have the know-how to use health informatics methods and software tools for hospitals, health care agencies and public health departments.

Program Vocational Learning Outcomes

Program Vocational Learning Outcomes describe what graduates of the program have demonstrated they can do with the knowledge and skills they have achieved during their studies. The outcomes are closely tied to the needs of the workplace. Through assessment (e.g., assignments and tests), students verify their ability to reliably perform these outcomes before graduating.

  1. Analyze and define the specifications of a health information system based on user requirements.
  2. Design, implement, test and document health information systems based on specifications and software engineering methodologies.
  3. Develop architectures and provide examples of information systems to support patients, the public, and policy makers and managers of health care services.
  4. Assess software quality and, where necessary, improve software performance through the application of appropriate testing, verification, and evaluation procedures.
  5. Design, model, implement, and maintain a database and electronic health records.
